Rehabilitation of the Anambé farm to secure dairy production in the South

The Doylu project (Integrated Energy-Fodder-Milk Program) is implemented in the North (Dagana, Liguère) and South (Kolda) zones of Senegal by Enda Énergie. This is a risk mitigation strategy of the PROGRES-Lait program, which aims to secure milk production and the milk market. It thus complements this regional milk and solar energy value chain program (PROGRES-Lait) especially in terms of empowering breeders with livestock feed for sustainability of milk production 12/12 months.

“DOYLU” is part of an action orientation with rapid results/impacts. It consists of developing youth entrepreneurship in the milk value chain both upstream in the production of livestock feed and downstream in the context of access to sustainable energy for production, conservation and the processing of milk with a view to developing an independent market for dairy by-products.

In the Kolda area, this program supported by GIZ made it possible to develop three (03) forage areas of five (05) hectares each in Saré Samba, Tchika, Diambaouta and Anambé. They are equipped with solar pumping systems with which different types of fodder will be harvested (panicum, braccaria, cowpea, etc.).

In its mission to support populations in transformation processes oriented towards sustainable development, Enda Energie always tries, through its various projects/programs, to relaunch well-thought-out and well-executed actions.

It is in this sense that, in the Anambé basin, a memorandum of understanding was established with SODAGRI for the rehabilitation of the farm and the dairy which had been installed by the State for the breeders but were become non-functional in the absence of support and monitoring.

In this context, following the establishment of a cooperative organization system and a coaching mechanism, cows were acquired for the farm, in addition to a 5kw 300Ah photovoltaic solar installation, a 150L solar water heater and other milk processing equipment.

To ensure better private exploitation of this type of community dairy farm, Enda Energie has initiated a series of training courses for young people and women in professions linked to the milk value chain through an innovative popular incubation mechanism.

Faced with climate change, here is an economic model aimed at strengthening the resilience of young people based on the valorization of unexploited community heritage due to lack of maintenance and monitoring, which can be proposed.
