Description
The “Strengthening Access to Improved Homes” (RFA) project is part of a broader Endev/FVC program “Promoting climate-friendly cuisine in Kenya and Senegal”.
It is an initiative co-financed by the BMZ and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and whose implementation is coordinated by GIZ in Senegal.
This project aims to disseminate 638,724 Improved Stoves (FA) with a view to reducing pressure on forest cover, mitigating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions under Senegal's climate policy and contributing to job creation and women's empowerment.
In Senegal, ENDA ENERGIE is one of the implementing entities responsible for carrying out this project in 5 regions: Fatick, Saint-Louis, Kolda, Sédhiou and Ziguinchor.
-
Major issue
Senegal is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions, in particular by limiting the use of biomass, mainly for domestic cooking. This approach aims to counter deforestation and is integrated into its energy development plans, with an emphasis on the use of improved stoves for more sustainable cooking.
-
Goals
Strengthen the FA distribution network through Last Miles Entrepreneurs (LME), Women’s Promotion Groups (GPF) in the different regions of intervention.
Support the sale of FAs to balance the level of distribution between rural and urban areas.
Popularize FAs through awareness-raising activities (cooking demonstrations, sales events, caravans) and communication via community radios.
-
Expected results
During the two phases of the project, several results are planned, such as:
The FA distribution network is strengthened through Last Miles Entrepreneur (LME) and the Groupement de Promotion Féminin (GPF).
The sale of FAs to balance
The level of distribution between rural and urban areas is supported.
FAs are popularized through awareness-raising activities (cooking demonstrations, sales events, caravans) and communication via community radios.
