Senegal: Saly - Closing of a workshop on financing and insurance of climate risks and disasters

Saly-Portudal (Mbour) — The national workshop on financing and insurance of climate risks and disasters ended Wednesday, in Saly-Portudal (Mbour, west), after two days of work, noted the 'APS. The meeting was organized by the international NGO Enda Energy and its partners who work to strengthen the multi-actor partnership on finance and insurance issues and issues related to climate risks and disasters, said the program coordinator of this NGO. This workshop is part of the Multi-Stakeholder Partnership (PMA) Project on Financing and Insurance for Climate and Disaster Risks (FARCC), funded by the German government. “This activity aims, above all, to establish a framework for dialogue that can enable synergy of actions, better involvement and better commitment on these aspects concerning insurance, particularly index insurance,” explained Emmanuel. Seck, program coordinator at Enda energy. “We want to see how to better harmonize our initiatives, particularly with regard to climate financing which is much more oriented on questions of adaptation but not sufficiently on questions of risk when talking about prevention,” he added. Abdou Sané, technical advisor to the director of the environment and classified establishments at the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development, reiterated his invitation to other organizations, asking them to draw inspiration from the "sense of initiative" of Enda energy. “Contrary to a certain perception, Senegal imposes its leadership because it shines on the international level within the framework of taking into account all the hazards linked to climate degradation,” underlined Mr. Sané, former deputy for The national assembly. Certainly, the phenomena, in certain cases, persist, but Abdou Sané is delighted to note that Senegal has been able to find the means to mitigate them “significantly”. “It is because we are never enough that we believe that in the light of this Enda Energie initiative, we have thought of insuring ourselves. And this insurance is part of taking into account a very important dimension which is the sacredness of human life and public property,” he noted.
