Co-construction of the vision, missions and governance mode of the Observatory on Just Transitions (OJuST)

The need for a just and sustainable transition in the face of environmental and socio-economic challenges is now indisputable, particularly for Senegal, determined to chart a path towards equitable and environmentally friendly development. The signing of the JETP in June 2023 opened the way for a constructive dialogue between state and non-state actors on the paths to take to make this transition a reality. It is in this dynamic that is part of the technical workshop for the operationalization of the Observatory of Just and Sustainable Transitions (OJuST) which was held on March 1 and 2, 2024 at the Saly Princess Hotel in Saly, offering a platform for reflection and action to these actors.

The workshop brought together diverse state and non-state actors, all committed to collaborating for the common interest. Through interactive exchanges and group work, participants co-constructed the Observatory's vision, missions and mode of governance aimed at ensuring an inclusive transition, where every voice counts and every contribution is valued.

At the heart of the discussions was the definition of a transparent and inclusive roadmap for the Observatory. Participants highlighted the importance of open communication and close collaboration between state and non-state actors. The Observatory positions itself as a tool for monitoring, influencing and evaluating just and sustainable transitions, thus contributing to the country's climate policies and strategies.

Through constructive dialogue and active collaboration, the workshop generated strong consensus on the objectives and terms of the tool. However, it is clear that this is only the beginning of a promising journey towards a sustainable future for Senegal. Firm commitments have been made to ensure effective implementation of this tool with rigorous monitoring and transparent communication.

This workshop brought together state and non-state actors around a constructive dialogue and thus laid the foundations for solid collaboration and a transparent roadmap for the Observatory. From now on, it is essential to maintain this momentum of cooperation to make OJuST an effective tool serving a sustainable future for all Senegalese people.
